Gateway_FPD2275W_mainxGateway Incorporated is a company with years of experience in developing and manufacturing computers, monitors, servers and other computer accessories. The company is a subsidiary of Acer Inc. The group made a good brand name shortly and by 19991, it became very popular for its shipment using cow-spotted boxes and ads. In the early days, it gained a lot of appreciation and positive reviews from the customers.

But when nearing the 2000s, the company suffered major business setbacks. As a result, the online section was acquired by AOL.  After many years, the company sold the business segment to MPC Corporation, including the company’s configuration center in Nashville.

Another blow came when the MPC Corporation itself filed bankruptcy after the cessation of its services. This created havoc when the customers were left with no option to avail the warranty services. Substantial damage to the brand was an inevitable consequence of all these events. The company was not in a position to offer any sort of compensation or support to the customers.

Later, the company was acquired by Acer and this resulted in the cessation of all direct sales from Gateway. Very lately, they launched a new brand in Australia.

Now the company sells hardware to some particular markets like small businesses, medium and large businesses, home, home office, government and education.

The company is well remembered for selling the forty two inch plasma televisions in 2003 at a much lesser price than what the competitors offered. In addition to the television, they sold other products like MP3 players, cameras and other digital devices. They drew attention of the customers to the product rather than creating brand awareness.

Recently, the company started selling affordable LCD monitors of various sizes which includes 19, 22, 24 and 30 inch monitors. Some of the models allow screen rotations as well and has built in USB ports. What makes the company popular is that it offers the products at an affordable price while maintaining quality.

The products have been advertised in various media like internet, newspapers etc. Many of them present attractive offers to the customers.

Many of the Gateway products are sold without pre-installing the software. The service is not enabled online through their website as well. Once making the purchase, the customers have to visit the recommended centers to do the installation.

The latest product in the series is Gateway one with a simple and elegant design. The company supports and recommends Windows Vista of Microsoft for their products.

I have watched and read numerous reviews over the years and finally made the plunge and I believe I made the best choice. This TV is awesome: lightwieght, easy to assemble, incredible picture and sound, and fairly easy to use remote and menu choices.

  2. Look, you’ve read all the reviews from Amazon, Cnet, HD Guru, etc. and they all pretty much say the same: this is a great plasma HDTV. The positive reviews on this G10 can be trusted. Suffice it to say, I am giving this a five-star rating without reservation.

I purchased the Panasonic G10, 50 inch, at BB over a month ago for just under $1,300 with free delivery and pickup. The price was more than enough to sell me on this set over any other plasma or LCD. The other products out there are fine, but if you combine the price and the quality, the G10 wins hands down.

I compared several blue-ray movies using THX on the G10 and the movie mode on our Sony M3000. Sorry, Sony, but the G10 beat it straight up and I was using our Sony BDP S350.

Some reviews have not liked the THX mode but I find it very acceptable and appreciate the darker blacks and the toned-down reds. Everyone has their own idea about which mode is the best, but I think Panasonic has enough picture modes to please everyone.

The only caveat on this review is that Panasonic technical support is basically non-existent unless you have a couple of hours to burn waiting for a customer service person to answer.

In conclusion, the expert and non-expert positive reviews on the Panasonic G10 plasma should be trusted. Do not be afraid to purchase the G10.

  5. I purchased this item after looking for a change from the PC; it has been incredible…especially with the iLife 09 suite–great photo and video programs that are very user friendly. The overall Mac OS is very intuitive and powerful.
