Microsoft Windows Phone 7 Screenshots and Live Demo Video Walkthrough Preview

March 9th, 2010

First, if you have any questions for the Windows Phone 7 Series team, I’d be more than happy to ask on your behalf (as I do live around the corner from Redmond’s campus and will be meeting with the team again at some point in the future). Post a comment and/or video response.

I was invited to a behind the scenes look at elements of the Windows Phone 7 Series developer platform. At Mobile World Congress (covered earlier in this channel), Microsoft provided a first look at Windows Phone 7 Series – and Im pleased to offer you the opportunity to see a live demonstration up close.

Yes, I got to play with the phone, too. It works as advertised – even as a prototype. Unfortunately, we could not adjust the brightness settings in this particular device. The “Metro” interface is a bucket of win in my book.

Charlie Kindel partner group program manager, Windows Phone App Platform & Developer Experience was hosting an intimate reception this evening in San Francisco. I wasn’t able to make it, but Microsoft arranged a somewhat more private meeting with Greg Sullivan from the Windows Phone team a little closer to home.

I met Greg a few years ago through the Longhorn Labs project (back when Microsoft Windows team leads worked actively with their most vocal community supporters). I’m not sure if I can reveal any more device details at this point, but suffice it to say…

I want one.

Motorola Backflip — AT&T’s first Android phone — now available for $99

March 8th, 2010

Just like it was promised, the Motorola Backflip is now available on AT&T for $99, making it the carrier’s first and only Android device. You’ll want to check out our hands-on with the phoneback at CES, as pictures really don’t do it justice.

The Backflip — which sports the Motoblur social networking interface — has a unique fold-over keyboard and 5-megapixel camera, along with a 3.1-inch touchscreen (at 320×480 pixels), comes with 512MB of storage memory and 256MB of RAM, and its microSD card can handle up to 32GB.

The Backflip is available starting today for $99 along with the usual 2-year contract and $100 “promotion card” rebate, or you can buy it outright for $349.99 (which isn’t a bad price, actually). [AT&T]

Apple’s iPad Not to Get iPhone Tethering, Says So Apple’s Steve Jobs [iPad Tethering to iPhone Officially Not Supported; Unofficially Who Knows What Will Happen?]

March 8th, 2010

Yesterday we found out that the Wi-Fi iPad will be available in U.S. stores starting with April 3 while iPad pre-orders will kick off on March 12. It’s no wonder that excited iPad customers are getting their cash ready to get one of the three Wi-Fi iPad models available so far.

One of those customers based in Sweden fired off an email straight to Steve Jobs asking him whether the Wi-Fi iPad will be able to use the iPhone’s 3G connection. Surprisingly Steve Jobs answered from his iPhone and his answer was short and to the point: “no.”

It’s only logical for Apple not to want to support iPhone tethering on the Wi-Fi iPad. If you want 3G you should pay an extra premium 3G fee of $130 for the 3G iPad which is coming only at some point later in April.

Unofficially some clever folks might find a way to enable iPhone to iPad tethering in the near future although such a tethering feature isn’t really supposed to work.

The main point here is that the main man from Apple is using an iPhone decided to personally respond to this inquiry which means this is a serious matter. We can only assume he must have gotten before this question and maybe he’s just a little tired of having to answer it.

While we do understand Apple’s personal attachment to hard cold cash they should also understand our same needs. Paying an extra $130 for the 3G antenna it’s just a little too much. Here are, once again, the official iPad prices which you will find in Apple stores later this year:

Wi-Fi iPad:

  • 16GB – $499
  • 32GB – $599
  • 64GB – $699

3G iPad:

  • 16GB – $629
  • 32GB – $729
  • 64GB – $829

An earlier report this year suggested that Apple could decide to cut down prices should the iPad not sell very well. But something tells me that the whole talk about iPad availability this week might have convinced a lot more people to pre-order the device, just to make sure they are among the first ones to get it.

Oh and just as a side note, given all the iPhone OS 3.1.3 issues you guys have been telling us about, it looks like Steve Jobs is still using on iPhone OS 3.1.2. Wonder why?

3G Technology And The Advantages

March 4th, 2010

3gThird Generation Internet Technology or also known as 3G is the fastest fashion of data communication these days. It is a form of wireless technology and can be used mobile. 3G improves the efficiency of data transfer over the 3G device, such as your cellular phone or a data card. It’s more faster than 2G or 2.5 in terms of data transfer, hence it’s called the third generation mobile telecommunication.

Its predecessor were using GPRS or EDGE technology for data transmits, but the transfer rate was so slow that it made user’s patience tested. The main advantage of 3G is that all data transfer over the phone can now take place at a much faster speed.

3G Internet has not only created your mobile gadget better equipped but your PC and laptop also. 3G USB Modems and cards have been established by most of the leading Internet Service Providers. You only require to plug in your 3G modem into the USB slot, and access Internet on your computer by storm.

3G technology is basically all about speed and high data transfer rate. All the matters that you could originally do on your Internet enabled phone, you can do all those now at a faster speed. For instance, you can download songs, movie trailers, sound clips and even complete movies into your phone in no time! What took 2 hrs earlier, the same will now play in a matter of a couple of minutes.

You can use map and positioning services. The 3G enabled handset can determine its current location on the inbuilt map, and can give you directions to go to a particular place from its present position. It can even give you driving directions. And don’t forget about direct video-conferencing, you can see the person to whom you are talking when you make calls, provided the other person also is using a 3g enabled device. This is in contrast to traditional voice calls where you are limited to hearing only the voice of the individual at the other end.

For manic shoppers through your 3G enabled cell phone you can do online shopping, online banking, and even watch the ups and downs in the share market, to name a few. If you’re a gamer then 3G is even the exact solution for you. With the advancement of the 3G internet technology you can play multiplayer games with co-players across the globe, right on your cell phone.

With all the goodness of 3G Internet, you no longer need to wait to go to the cinema or even get into your drawing room to watch on the television the latest movie released. You can very well catch up with your favorite TV shows no matter day or afternoon. Also, You can watch it right in your phone while sitting in your car or during break-time at office.

To have a 3G enabled phone is like having the world in your pocket. So when you decide to upgrade your cell phone, make sure that you buy a 3G enabled phone. It will cost a little more no doubt, but it will not take it long for you to realize that it is indeed deserve your money.

Buy Cheap Gateway LCD Monitors

November 13th, 2009

Gateway_FPD2275W_mainxGateway Incorporated is a company with years of experience in developing and manufacturing computers, monitors, servers and other computer accessories. The company is a subsidiary of Acer Inc. The group made a good brand name shortly and by 19991, it became very popular for its shipment using cow-spotted boxes and ads. In the early days, it gained a lot of appreciation and positive reviews from the customers.

But when nearing the 2000s, the company suffered major business setbacks. As a result, the online section was acquired by AOL.  After many years, the company sold the business segment to MPC Corporation, including the company’s configuration center in Nashville.

Another blow came when the MPC Corporation itself filed bankruptcy after the cessation of its services. This created havoc when the customers were left with no option to avail the warranty services. Substantial damage to the brand was an inevitable consequence of all these events. The company was not in a position to offer any sort of compensation or support to the customers.

Later, the company was acquired by Acer and this resulted in the cessation of all direct sales from Gateway. Very lately, they launched a new brand in Australia.

Now the company sells hardware to some particular markets like small businesses, medium and large businesses, home, home office, government and education.

The company is well remembered for selling the forty two inch plasma televisions in 2003 at a much lesser price than what the competitors offered. In addition to the television, they sold other products like MP3 players, cameras and other digital devices. They drew attention of the customers to the product rather than creating brand awareness.

Recently, the company started selling affordable LCD monitors of various sizes which includes 19, 22, 24 and 30 inch monitors. Some of the models allow screen rotations as well and has built in USB ports. What makes the company popular is that it offers the products at an affordable price while maintaining quality.

The products have been advertised in various media like internet, newspapers etc. Many of them present attractive offers to the customers.

Many of the Gateway products are sold without pre-installing the software. The service is not enabled online through their website as well. Once making the purchase, the customers have to visit the recommended centers to do the installation.

The latest product in the series is Gateway one with a simple and elegant design. The company supports and recommends Windows Vista of Microsoft for their products.
