Solution To iPhone 4 Display Yellow Bands Spots Problem

June 26th, 2010

When the iPhone 4 was released worldwide on June 24th, 2010, thousands of people rushed to stores to get their hands on the new magical device by Apple. But this enthusiasm was short lived for a lot of people, first because of the signal reception problem, and then because of various yellow colored spots on the much-hyped ‘retina display’ of the iPhone 4.

The yellow spots on your iPhone might look somewhat like this -

Why does your iPhone 4 have yellow colored bands/spots?
Apple Support and SlashGear report that the discoloration or yellow bands are due to an adhesive used by Apple (called Organofunctional Silane Z-6011) to bond the various layers on glass in the iPhone 4’s new retina display. The bonding agent takes a while to dry up, which can vary from a few days to a week. Though the source of this information is somewhat in the dark (originated from a post on AppleInsider forums), but this was somewhat confirmed by the phone support agents on the Apple helpline to a few people who called up inquiring about the problem.

How you can get rid of the problem

This may sound weird, but the solution that Apple is recommending right now, and based on the above explanation of the problem, is to just wait. Apple is shipping these new iPhones so quickly, that its seems the adhesive has not dried up in quite a number of the sets dispatched. The adhesive will dry up in a while, and when it does, the yellow spots are expected to go away. In fact, quite a lot of users on forums are reporting that the yellow spots are getting lighter or completely disappearing as the display gets heated up or after general use for 1 day.

If you can’t stand the spots on your new iPhone for 1 more second, you can take it back to the Apple Store you got it from, and ask for an exchange. The Apple Stores have replaced quite a few iPhones already for customers who brought back their iPhones after 1 day of use. If you do go in for an exchange, be sure to check the new iPhone for any other display related issues (Some users have also reported that their displays have dead pixels).

In any case, my recommendation would be to wait it out. If after a few days of usage, the discoloration persists, then you should go ahead and take your iPhone back to the Apple Store you got it from.

3 Ways To Fix, Repair iPhone 4 Signal Reception Loss Reducing Signal Bars Issue

June 26th, 2010

If you are the proud owner of a brand new iPhone 4 and have been disheartened by all the news on the internet about the iPhone 4 losing reception when you hold it in a particular way, there may be some good news for you. If you read our previous post on the features of the new iPhone 4, then you will have noticed that the stainless steel framework of the new iPhone 4, which is broken into 3 parts – each of which acts as an external antenna for Bluetooth, Wifi, GPS, UMTS, GSM.

The Cause
The cause of the problem is still somewhat ambiguous, but the most widely agreed upon cause until now is that the reception drops when you place your hand on the bottom left corner of the iPhone 4. This causes the break in the steel framework to be “bridged” by your hand, thereby establishing a weak contact between the 2 separate parts of the antenna. This ‘contact’ causes the 2 different signals/circuits to mix up, breaking the reception. You see this as the indicator bars going down on your screen. To support this theory, here is an excellent example video where the problem is demonstrated by using a metallic key (rather than your hand) to touch the two parts of the antenna, and it shows the signal going down.

iPhone 4 Antenna Problem Demonstration

Some reports have also turned up claiming that this problem is related to iOS4 rather than the design of the iPhone 4. This claim has been backed up with evidence that an iPhone 3G running iOS4 loses reception in the same way as an iPhone 4 on being clutched. This problem was absent when the iPhone 3G was running iOS 3.

The Solution
A lot of solutions have been proposed to this problem and have been tested as working.

  1. Don’t hold the phone from the bottom left corner – This is probably the most obvious and the most ridiculous of all the proposed solutions. Especially for people who are left handed and are uncomfortable holding in it their right hands. You can also adjust your palm, or use just your fingers to hold the phone, but that isn’t a particularly comfortable position to hold your phone in. Engadget sent out an email to Steve Jobs, asking for an explanation about this issue. His reply : “Just avoid holding it in that way“.
  2. Get a Bumper for your iPhone 4 – Apple launched Bumpers for the iPhone 4 along with the phone, and people who have bought them have reported that using a Bumper fixes the problem of breaking reception. This also points towards the fact that the speculation over the cause being related to “bridging” of the circuit by human touch is true.
  3. Insulate the break – Some people have also solved the problem without spending any extra cash on cases by applying a little scotch tape over the area so as to insulate the 2 parts from getting in contact with each other while holding it in your hand.

Surprisingly, some people have also reported that their iPhone does not have this problem. However, the number of such users are few.

Are you facing the reception problem with your iPhone 4? Have a solution that we haven’t mentioned in this post? Please leave a comment below.

How To Handle PC Issues

June 1st, 2010

Technology is so intertwined with everyday life that fixing technological items is imperative. Even Suffolk County computer repair and Nassau County computer repair are dealing with more requests for assistance. There are a number of possible solutions for rectifying errors with your home PC or laptop. However, you may need to look into finding a professional for assistance.

Rebooting the system is always the first step in attempting to rectify a problem with your home PC. A lot of issues will occur from leaving the system running for too long, especially if it is a family PC that is being used by multiple people. You should try turning the computer off and letting it cool down as a possible solution. Though rebooting tends to help, it is not always a fix all. Most people forget the simple things when dealing with PCs because of the technology involved, but even with the improving technology rebooting is typically a safe step.

If for some reason rebooting does not seem to change the status of your PC system, then you will need to try another solution. Most computers have a restore option, which will usually help with the situation as long as it is not a major problem. Restoring your computer will make your computer as it was before the problem. The PC will erase the corrupt files that were downloaded after the date you choose. Restoring typically will rectify most problems that come from corrupt files or misplaced processes.

You should look for professional assistance if you still cannot get your PC working. If the problem is with a laptop it is a lot simpler to take it into a technology store to see if they can rectify the problem. However, your home PC can be more difficult to deal with because of the sheer size and number of parts. There are professionals that can come to your house to pinpoint the problem for you. From there you can decide whether or not to have it fixed, or if you need to buy a new part. Unfortunately, replacing is sometimes the only way to go.

It can be somewhat stressful to deal with technology problems. It is important to wait for sales if you end up having to replace your system. Stores use things like rebates to help cut down the cost.

Ideas To Discover The Right Technician In Times Of Trouble

May 25th, 2010

Everyone knows how frustrating it is to have a problem with a PC or laptop particularly when there are deadlines looming. Finding someone to fix the problem then is sometimes a great problem for most. A Long Island computer repair facility is the way to go to sort the problem so try looking up ‘Long Island computer’on a search engine to find someone who can do the work fast.

Many places these days have realized that people are far too busy to unhook their machines and take it to someone who can repair it. Looking for someone who can come on site and figure out what is wrong is the only way that time and cash can be saved. If the technician cannot fix the problem in situ he is there to do all the carrying to the workshop and the owner is left to his own devices.

Of course, it may just be that the machine is not protected by an anti virus progam. If this is the case the technician will be able to clean the machine of any worm viruses or other kind of virus which will stop it and fix it at the earliest possible time. Indeed, downtime for any company that relies heavily on this high tech instrument will automatically incur expense.

Having a spare machine is not always an option and if it is a virus on a networked system then all of them could be infected as well. This can be checked out quite easily by a good technician and he will be able to say whether or not there is any ad ware or spy ware that has infiltrated the machine to cause it to run this way. They can get rid of these problems for the user which should result in a faster machine and less down time which will save money in the end.

For those who have a business then finding someone who will be able to provide this kind of service on a contract basis is the only way to get good service. In this way, any of the employees can get help at short notice, perhaps without the technician coming, to fix the problem over the phone. This usually costs less over the long run and helps to fix the problem faster.

This is also possible for the home user and if they build up a good rapport with the technician or company providing these services, then help is always at hand. Any emergencies that occur will be dealt with succinctly and the machine will be up and running with little downtime to talk of. This bodes well for companies who do a lot of selling via their machines or who offer services that include time on these machines. Time is money, as the old adage goes, so making full use of the machine, plus the people who use them, is the best way to make sure that the lost time is made up faster.

Advice For Rectifying Problems With Your Computer

Technology is so intertwined with everyday life that fixing technological items is imperative. When attempting to handle a PC problem, the first step should always be to reboot. A lot of issues will occur from leaving the system running for too long, especially if it is a family PC that is being used by multiple people. Turning the system off and giving it some time to cool down before rebooting is usually a good first step in trying to get the system to work again. However, this does ensure that you will be able to rectify whatever has gone wrong with the system. Because technology can be somewhat intimidating, many people forget the simple solutions like rebooting.

If for some reason rebooting does not seem to change the status of your PC system, then you will need to try another solution. Restoring your computer is usually a simple fix. Restoring your computer will make your computer as it was before the problem. Typically if you choose a date before the problem occurred, the computer will erase whatever problematic files were downloaded and return the PC to a safe state. Restoring typically will rectify most problems that come from corrupt files or misplaced processes.

You should look for professional assistance if you still cannot get your PC working. A laptop makes it simpler to handle because it is compact enough to take to a store. With all of the parts and the size of home PCs, it is more difficult to take to the store. There are professionals that can come to your house to pinpoint the problem for you. After a professional looks at your system you can decide what action to take. Sometimes replacing the entire PC is the only way to handle the issue.

PCs and technology in general can be somewhat stressful because it is not something that everyone can fix and can be somewhat expensive. It is important to wait for sales if you end up having to replace your system. A lot of stores will run sales that offer some sort of rebate that will help cut down on the cost.
